  • Provides leadership and best practices for Queensland practitioners to ensure the sustainable management of public works infrastructure, community assets and levels of service.

  • Identifies industry needs through communication, consultation, research and analysis which leads to more informed decisions and better outcomes for Queensland communities.

  • Contributes to the development of the program for the annual Asset Management Symposium (AMS) ensuring it addresses the challenges faced by practitioners at a practical level. 

The Department of State Development, Local Government, Infrastructure and Planning (SDLGIP) has undertaken a process of engagement with industry to understand the issues the long-term financial sustainability of councils in Queensland. A discussion paper on a proposed framework invited feedback from the industry (closed 30 November). 

 

Elements of the framework include: operating environment, financial performance, asset management, governance and compliance. Councils are grouped in the framework based on population to enable a tailored approach for considering sustainability. Councils will report on financial and asset sustainability ratios.

AMS 2021 Guidelines

The 2021 Asset Management Symposium established the benchmark for ongoing conversations regarding best practice asset management for the next decade. Delegates from a wide range of disciplines and councils and organisations of various size and maturity, gained a better understanding of the asset life cycle and an appreciation of the role they play in the efficient and effective management of the assets, and the levels of service, which support our communities
